![]() I'm a BIG FAN of Independent Book Stores. My recommendation is simply this: Be clear on who your patrons are. The older gentleman seemed very apologetic but the damage had already been done. An older gentleman came over and stated he sent the female worker to the restroom because he thought a lady was in there. His response was, "WE HAVE A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH HOMELESS PEOPLE COMING IN AND USING THE RESTROOM." My next question to the young worker at the counter was simply, "DO I LOOK HOMELESS TO YOU? I JUST PURCHASED TWO DRINKS AND A COOKIE AND I'M WORKING ON MY LAPTOP IN THE CORNER." The young worker shook his head and told me he didn't mean to imply that I was homeless. I ask the young male worker what prompted the young lady to come and question me while I was in the restroom. After being in the restroom for 10 minutes, the young lady from the counter opens the door and asks me, "IF EVERYTHING WAS ALRIGHT?" I told her yes everything was fine but I'm thinking to myself, "WHY IS SHE OPENING THE BATHROOM DOOR QUESTIONING A PATRON?"Īfter I hurried, washed my hands and stepped outside the bathroom I proceeded to the counter. However, a part of the experience made me very uncomfortable and it dealt with my trip to the restroom (This was after I purchased my 2nd drink which was a coffee along with a Big Chocolate Chip Cookie). I liked the author presentation that took place, the presenter was the former head of the Smithsonian American History Museum. On yesterday I stopped back by the store in the middle part of the evening with my son for a Soy Chai Latte and to get some work done on my laptop. I dropped in late for a cup of coffee and was very impressed with the array of books and the overall atmosphere. ![]() ![]() We came up to visit the Civil War Museum (an awesome museum by the way). I first visited this bookstore on last Saturday (April 23rd) while visiting Harrisburg with my wife. If you're a book lover, you will have no trouble spending a few bucks - or a few hundred bucks! I particularly enjoyed the architecture section, the local history section, and the aisle of American regional history. While there are newer books present, you won't find "new releases" or "bestsellers" screaming at you when you walk in the door. Keep in mind that Midtown Scholar will not have each and every book you're looking for, and that they have only "famous authors" in their literature section - no real "fiction" section. It lies somewhere in between the two - much better organized and rewarding than the former, and much more affordable than the latter! Plus, it has a small coffee / tea counter inside, which makes it perfect for whiling away a few hours in a leisurely browse. Subscribers enjoy unlimited access.Midtown Scholar is not the kind of place one would call a "used book store", which often conjures up images of dusty stacks of unwanted paperbacks nor is it the kind of place one would call an "antiquarian bookseller", although the books are in great condition and appear to have been carefully selected. * See your history – Easily view stories you’ve readįree to download. * Continue watching – Pause a video and pick up where you left off across devices * Breaking news updates – top banners let you know what’s happening right now * Read stories your way – either in the News Feed or via the E-edition ![]() * Easy navigation – See all the latest local stories by simply swiping up/down, and left/right. * Get notified – stay in the loop by selecting alerts for breaking news, sports, weather, and more * Your Stories – personalize your experience by selecting the news topics that matter most to you Read, see, and hear exclusive commentary, stunning photography, video updates, and binge-worthy podcasts.
